If you come from what I come from, the drum is key. It’s cadence; it’s life.
My mother owned a dancing school. My father was a musician–the frontman of Chocolate Milk. [He] was not only a musician, but he was classically trained. I woke up every day with him playing Debussy and Beethoven, then I would go to the dancing school with my mom. It was organic. That was home. I never saw it as a job, I saw it as my life.
I wanna inspire the kids. I wanna see a five year old making a beat in the park. I want the next wave of artists to be under 20.
I spoke with Oshi, and he just seemed so excited about LA. I remember that feeling. I still think LA is great, but I do think LA is somewhat of a dirty bitch. She’s really beautiful, but she’s conniving. You can fall in love with her, and then she’ll spank your ass and leave you. I wanted to write about that.
I don’t even understand my process. It’s different each time. I’ll wake up and be like, Okay here’s a beat I dreamt of.
